Rajasthan Health Minister statement published in daily newspaper that 96000 child deaths takes place every year is quite shocking ,a challenge to humanity , the Govt.& the medical community which compelled me to express my apathy in sequence of 8/9 death of indoor child patients in NICU/ICU/Children Ward in JLN Hospital ,Ajmer. No doubt Doctors must have struggled to save the lives but failed, thus ,it is time for introspection wether there is lack of infrastructure, facilities or resources or human failure.Hospitals may have ICUs that cater to a specific speciality or patient such as ‘Neonatal intensive care unit’ (NICU) & ‘Pediatric intensive care unit’ (PICU).NICU speciality unit cares for neonatal patients who have not left the hospital after birth.Common conditions cared for include prematurity and associated complications resulting from the birthing process. Likewise,PICU where Pediatric patients are treated for life-threatening medical problems such as asthma, influenza , diabetic ketoacidosis,or traumatic brain injury.Surgical cases may also be transferred to the PICU postoperative lying the patient has a potential for rapid deterioration and requires more frequent monitoring ,such as in spinal fusions or surgeries involving the airway such as removal of tonsils or adenoids. Some facilities also have specialised pediatric cardiac intensive care units, where patients with congenital heart disease are cared for. These units also typically handle cardiac transplantation and postoperative care of cardiac catheterisation patients if those services are offered at the hospital. The statement of the Rajasthan Health Minister that 96000 child death takes place every year in Rajasthan is quite shocking and alarming too, thus an issue of introspection of the Govt.and medical authorities including the doctor community,as a challenge to medical science, claim of achieving progress in manifold spheres, but utter failure to extend safety to newly born child. The incident of deaths at JLN Hospital & Medical College , Ajmer is highly deplorable ,thus a failure that the medical authorities have failed to extend medical facilities to the needful who cannot afford to seek treatment in private hospitals or a underhand practice to cater for those institutions . The Govt.of Rajasthan , specially the Health Minister proves to be insensitive towards the poor or the needy & an irresponsible statement which has shaken the conscience of a prudent citizen of State of Rajasthan in general and Ajmer in particular
