PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION ON CHILD LABOUR ISSUE

jaipur-100x100Jaipur: A photography competition to highlight the issue of child labour, which was announced during a recent visit of the members of Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) to Thailand, has been extended all over the country to invite the entries of photographs capturing the scenes of child labourers working in hotels, restaurants, industries, trains and on streets as well as their daily lives and living conditions. Though three winners of the contest, organized jointly by Lok Samvad Sansthan and PRSI, were announced after the members’ visit to Bangkok and Pataya from June 11 to 16, 2013, the photographs could not cover the expected range of topics as the participants only visited the important tourist centres in Thailand. The competition has been extended to India and the members of PRSI chapters all over the country have been asked to send in their entries.             The PRSI President, Dr. Ajit Pathak, said here today that the photographs should highlight the environment of child labourers, their interactions with each other and their struggles and also the adolescent girls engaged in various employments for earning livelihood. A three-member jury will decide three winners and also announce three consolation prizes.

The awards will be given at the 35th All India Public Relations Conference in New Delhi on December 28-30, 2013. Mr. Pathak said a comparative study would later be taken up on the child labour scenario in India and Thailand on the basis of photographs and suggestions would be made for abolition of child labour. The PRSI, established in 1958, is a national association of public relations practitioners. PRSI has members from multinationals, government institutions, public and private sector bodies, academics and consultants. It has chapters in all state capitals and other important cities.

The Lok Samvad Sansthan Secretary, Mr. Kalyan Singh Kothari, said the three winners selected from among the visitors to Thailand were Mrs. Shilpa Guha, Director, Eastern Chronicle, Guwahati, Mrs. Shobha Dhanwatray, Director, Work Skills Training Academy, Nagpur, and Mr. Ramphool Gurjar, Assistant Director, Public Relations, Government of Rajasthan, Jaipur.
