KBC THEATRE WORKSHOP STRENGTHENING YOUTH LEADERSHIP

COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMME BY PRIA AND ASIA FOUNDATION
DSC06089 PRIAJaipur : A theatre workshop organised with the participation of youths in Ward No. 62 of Jaipur forms part of the Kadam Badhate Chalo (KBC) initiative to end violence against women and girls. The KBC initiative is a collaborative programme by the Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) and The Asia Foundation.
The workshop aims at strengthening youth leadership and the response and accountability of local governance, institutions, and communities, while influencing attitudinal change to end violence against women and girls. This month-long theatre workshop will include enthusiastic youth in the age group 11-17.
The purpose of this workshop is to develop a street play incorporating the findings identified in a recent Participatory Safety Audit conducted in the KBC work area. The play will be used as a campaign tool through performance for audiences within and outside of the community.
The PRIA Programme Officer, Ms. Ruchika Tara Mathur, said here today that the theatre workshop has been attended with enthusiasm and activities are fuelled by the youth’s energy and imagination. It provides a creative platform for learning and sharing about the issues of violence against women and girls, and incorporates the participation of both girls and boys.
This workshop is a collaborative effort between the Dramatics Department, University of Rajasthan, headed by Ms. Archana Srivastava, and PRIA. It is led by Ms. Babita Madan who teaches drama in a number of schools across the city, and has also been involved in theatre for nearly 20 years. Her experience and encouraging demeanour lends support to a positive theatrical process and child participation.
