Udaipur : Claiming it to be the first ever case in medical science not only in India but the world, a team of surgeons from the Pacific Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) here successfully operated a man, relieving him of the pain and trauma of living with a dual tongue. “ The medical team has operated a 20 centimeters long ‘tongue like structure’ from a man’s mouth which is first of its kind surgery ever taken place in the medical history” said Dr D.P Aggarwal, the president of the hospital.
Bannalal Keer, a farmer in Bhilwara, had been bearing intense pain for two years after a tongue-like structure started developing in his mouth. He could not eat or drink normally and as his pain grew unbearable he consulted various surgeons in different cities but the cost of surgery was beyond his budget. Finally he landed at the pacific medical college here where even the specialists were shocked to see his health condition. Bannalal could not eat or drink properly and the pain had made his life miserable. “ The operated structure was more than double the size of a human tongue and according to the patient he came to know about its presence only two years back” said Dr S.S. Surana, the Principal and Controller of the medical college.
“Bannalal was operated two days back and has been discharged as his life has returned to normalcy. He can eat and drink without any hassles now,” Dr Surana said. The operation was done free of cost and Bannalal hadn’t to pay a single penny for medical expenses. Dr. KC Vyas, Dr Gaurav Vadhawan, Dr Deepak Bhojwani, Dr Tarun Bhatnagar, Dr Prakash Audichya, Ajay Choudhary and Ravi Kasara were among the medical team to have successfully completed the surgery. After referring it with experts across the country and information available on the net, the medical college has now decided to hold a detailed research in the case and find out the reasons for the development of the structure inside the patients mouth. A case report and research paper will too be published.
