Educational Tour from New York University, Abu Dhabi

Group of StudentsLanga Manganiar PerformanceMewati Jogi PerformanceA group of students from New York University, Abu Dhabi was on two day educational tour at Arna Jharna: The Desert Museum of Rajasthan in Jodhpur.  During two day workshop on Story Telling Traditions of Rajasthan the students have interacted with professional story tellers such as Langas on Jasma Oodan, Manganiars on Dhola Maru, Mewati Jogis on Lanka Chadai and Bhopa on Pabu Ji Ki Padh.  Dr.  Shubha Chaudhry, Director, Archives and Research Centre for Ethnomusicology, New Delhi and Kuldeep Kothari, Secretary, Rupayan Sansthan, Jodhpur has explained the folk epics, ballads and Story Telling Traditions and answered the questions raised by students.  The group was lead by Faculty Leaders Maurice Pomerantz, Evelyn Vitz and Trip Supervisor Ms. Sally Weathers.

The students have seen broom exhibition and witnessed the broom making demonstration by Kohli, the professional broom maker.  In the museum they have also seen exhibitions on folk musical instruments and puppetry of Rajasthan.
